BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES:

Philip Rantzer was born in Polyiesht, Romania, on December 8th, 1956. He emigrated to Israel in 1960. In his early twenties he worked as a special effects and stage designer for the theater and television. In the years 1979-1981 he studied at the College for Art Teachers. Since 1988 he is senior lecturer at the Haifa University and serves as the head of the Sculpture Department at the College for Art Teachers in Tel-Aviv.

Since 1981 Rantzer exhibited extensively around the world.

He held solo exhibitions at the Janco Dada Museum, Ein Hod (1988), The Israel Museum, Jerusalem (1991), The City Museum of Gottingen (1994), The Kunstverein Gutersloh (1995) and leading galleries in Israel, Holland and Germany.

Selected group exhibitions include the Documenta IX in Kassel (1992), “Halal” at Sala 1 in Rome (1994), Sagacho exhibit space in Tokyo (1994), Dialogues of Peace at the U.N. in Geneva (1995).
Philip Rantzer was chosen to represent Israel at the Venice Biennal in 1999. The artist lives and works in Tel-Aviv.
